Built for the Germany Navy in 1936 as the HORST WESSELEAGLE was part of the war reparations paid to the United States following World War II.  Her homeport is New London, CT, where she sails as the US Coast Guard Academy’s training vessel.

A replica of one of the three ships that brought colonists to Virginia in 1607, GODSPEED was built in Rockport, ME in 2005.  Jamestown, VA was the first permanent English settlement in America.

A.J.MEERWALD is the official tall ship of New Jersey.  She was originally built in 1928 as a Deleware Bay oyster schooner and her educational programs for students focues on the science, history and maritime culture of the Deleware Bay.  She will be visiting Chespeake during OpSail 2012 Virginia.

ALLIANCE, formerly the KATHERINE B, sailed in the Maine windjammer fleet for many years before shifting her home port to Yorktown, VA.  She sails with adults and youth throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and along the East Coast.  ALLIANCE will be in Yorktown for the OpSail 2012 Virginia events.

AMERICAN ROVER is a local to Norfolk.  Since 1986, she has operated for Rover Cruises, conducting day sails along the Elizabeth River.  Tens of thousands of students from across Virginia and guests from out town have enjoyed our local waterways from her deck.

The BOUNTY was built for the Marlon Brando movie "Mutiny on the Bounty", retelling the story of the 1789 mutiny in which Captain William Bligh was set adrift in the Pacific Ocean.  The replica sails around the world, participating in tall ship festivals and teaching traditional sailing skills.  BOUNTY will be docked at Ocean Marine in Portsmouth for the OpSail 2012 Virginia events.

CISNE BRANCO, meaning “White Swan”, is the training vessel for officers and cadets from the Brazilian Navy and Merchant Marine Academy.  She was commissioned on March 9, 2000 and represents Brazil in maritime events around the world.

CUAUHTEMOC serves Mexico as the training vessel for the Mexican Navy, a role she has fulfilled for more than twenty years.  She participates in worldwide tall ship events while teaching the essential elements of seamanship and navigation, taking more than one hundred cadets to sea for each of its cruises.

Construction on DEWARUCI began in Germany prior to World War II, but was not completed until 1952.  She sails for the Indonesian Navy as a sail training vessel and is named after the Indonesian mythological god of courage and sincerity.

The GAZELA was originally built in Cacihas, Portugal in 1883.  She sailed until 1961 with the Grand Banks fishing fleet.  She now operates out of Philadelphia, PA as a sail training vessel with a large volunteer crew.  GAZELA will be docked at Ocean Marine in Portsmouth for the OpSail 2012 Virignia events.

GLORIA was one of many ships built in Bilboa, Spain for South American countries.  She was completed in 1966 and sails proudly for the Colombian Navy, training midshipmen in seamanship, navigation and teamwork.  She represents Colombia at maritime festivals and has logged more than 500,000 nautical miles.

GUAYAS was built in Bilbao, Spain in 1976.  She sails for the Ecuadorian Naval Academy, teaching practical seamanship and navigation skills to naval cadets.

Named after one of Ferdinand Magellan’s captains, JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO sails as the training ship for the Spanish Navy.  She was built in 1927 and has sailed around the world six times during her career.

The KALMAR NYCKEL is a replica of a ship that brought the first Swedish colonists to North America in 1638.  The replica is the official tall ship of Deleware and sails with a mostly volunteer crew conducting sail training programs.  KALMAR NYCKEL will be docking at Ocean Marine in Portsmouth during the OpSail 2012 Virginia events.

LYNX is a replica of a War of 1812 era American privateer.  She was built in Rockport, ME and sails for the Lynx Educational Foundation as a living history museum, sail training and educational vessel.  LYNX will be visiting Cape Charles during the OpSail 2012 Virginia events.

The PICTON CASTLE is registered in the Cook Islands and homeported in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.  She is operated as a sail training vessel and has circumnavigated the world multiple times with trainees of all ages and sailing experience.  PICTON CASTLE is one of the most traditionally run ships afloat and her programs strive to teach and maintain the skills and customs of the mariner.

SPIRIT OF BERMUDA was built in Rockport, Maine in 2006.  She is the official tall ship of Bermuda and sails with youth from Bermuda on sail training adventures throughout the Atlantic Ocean basin, from the Caribbean to Canada and to Europe.  SPIRIT OF BERMUDA will be visiting Yorktown and Norfolk during OpSail 2012 Virginia.

SULTANA is a replica of a British revenue cutter from 1767.  The original ship was used to collect the British taxes that led to the American Revolutionary War.  The replica was built in Chestertown, MD and sails with educational programs throughout the Chesapeake Bay.  SULTANA will be visiting Cape Charles during the opSail 2012 Virginia events.
