OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM Adopt a Ship Program:
Bringing History Alive for Virginia Students
NORFOLK, Va. – (May 30, 2012) – All across Virginia students are engaging in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with the OpSail 2012 Virginia™ international fleet through the Adopt a Ship program. OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM,in partnership with the US Navy,will present an international maritime festival from June1-12, 2012 commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. In order to encourage awareness of theWar of 1812 and foster diplomacy, OpSail 2012Virginia™ invited public, private and home schools statewide to participate in the Adopt a Ship program. Over4,000 students from 66 different schools and youth organizations across Virginia have spent the last year learning about theWar of 1812 as well as studying their adopted ship and country.
