OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM Bicentennial Speaker Series Welcomes Donald R. Hickey, The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict On Thursday, March 15, 2012
NORFOLK, Virginia – (March 5, 2012) – Professor Donald R. Hickey, a leading authority on the War of 1812, is the featured speaker in the fourth of a six-part OpSail 2012 VirginiaTM 1812 Bicentennial Speaker Series on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 7 p.m., at the Robin Hixon Theater, Clay and Jay Barr Education Center, Home of the Virginia Arts Festival. Robin Hixon Theater is located at 440 Bank Street, Norfolk VA 23510.
Author of The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict, Professor Hickey will explore the myths surrounding the people and battles of this particular time period. A member of the history department at Wayne State College, Hickey has published numerous works on the subject of early American history, the War of 1812, and early American military history. He was also recently featured as an historical expert in PBS’s “The War of 1812”.
Doors open at 6 p.m., the lecture begins at 7 p.m., followed by a book signing reception. There will also be a drawing for a one-of-a-kind gift set of autographed books from all seven featured historians in the speaker series.
All of the lectures in the six-part series are free and open to the public; however, space is limited and reservations are required.
