American Indian Festival (Greenbriar Middle School, 10am-6pm) The impressive Grand Entry captures the spirit of the festival as Native Americans enter in full regalia. The Grand Entry will take place at noon on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday. The essence of the Native American culture is also revealed in the Pow-Wow, where dancers move gracefully to the beat of the drum. This is an educational family event featuring traditional dancing and drumming, American Indian food, demonstrations, native jewelry, and crafts for purchase. The event also features children's activities such as pony rides and make-and-take crafts. For more information, call (757) 382-6411.

USS CHESAPEAKE: The Troubled History of a Troubled Ship (7:00 pm at Tidewater Community College, Chesapeake Campus- 1428 Cedar Road, Chesapeake VA 23322, Room 2057 in the Marian P. Whitehurst Building) The USS CHESAPEAKE (the image of which figures prominently on the City of Chesapeake seal) played a role in both the coming of the War of 1812 and in the War itself. Discover the story of one of the most infamous ships in American history when TCC Professors Dr. David Kiracofe and Dr. Kevin Brady present their lecture, “The USS Chesapeake - The Troubled History of a Troubled Ship Free & Open to the public.

OpSail 2012 Virginia™ Parade of Sail- The International fleet of tall ships will begin arriving on Thursday, June 7, 2012. They will anchor in Lynnhaven Roads, just north of the John A. Lesner Bridge on the Virginia Beach waterfront. The Parade of Sail will begin at 7AM on the morning of Friday, June 8, 2012. The fleet will parade from the Lynnhaven Roads anchorage through Thimble Shoals Channel, past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (between Trestles A and B) and past Fort Monroe in Hampton. From there, the ships will move through Hampton Roads and up the Elizabeth River to downtown Norfolk. The first ships in the Parade will reach Town Point Park in downtown Norfolk at noon on Friday, June 8, 2012. Ships will then proceed to their docks in downtown Norfolk, or in other Affiliate Ports, before opening to the public for tours. Viewing locations in Virginia Beach, Eastern Shore, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Chesapeake. For general parade updates, visit Parade of Sail Information.

Race at Great Bridge Lock Park - 100 Locks Road, Chesapeake, VA

A 6-Mile kayak, canoe and SUP race to benefit wounded warriors. The race is hosted by Team River Runner of Virginia Beach.
2:00 pm - Kayak, Canoe & SUP Fun Paddle Race
A shorter, noncompetitive paddle to benefit wounded warriors. The fun paddle is hosted by Team River Runner of Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Tourism Corporation's oversized LOVE artwork on display at Great Bridge Lock Bridge as part of a state & local partnership to promote tourism. The artwork, which is 16 feet long and more than six feet high, is part of the Virginia is for Lovers campaign and promotes the message that love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation. Visitors are encouraged to take a family picture in front of the artwork and share it on Facebook atwww.facebook.com/virginiaisforlovers or on Twitter, using the hashtag #LOVEVA. Access to the artwork is free and available during daylight hours June 9 & 10.

12:10-1:00 pm - The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening of the Interpretive Park. Interpretive signage will be unveiled which provides information about the history of the Battle of Great Bridge and the waterways of the region.
